"That's how long we'll stay / Together and forever more." That song is Taurosshit.

IN A NUTSHELL

  • You know that one coworker who can't stop talking about how she used to have it better decades ago, despite a steady job and a social life? That's Dismay, who thinks she's older than she actually is. (Kinda like Ash.)

  • Or you know that one voice actor who shows up to every comic-con, trapped into making money off your childhood when they could've been a famous singer or Oscar-winning actor?

  • How about that one over-the-hill sad sack who's constantly telling you that things were better back then, that music was louder, the days were longer, and no one stared at their phones?

  • Meet Dismay, Ash's former companion on Pocket Monsters, the Kantonese show that was everywhere when you were growing up, encouraging kids to spend money in hopes of becoming the best there ever was.

  • Replaced by producer demands to "keep the show fresh", she realized far too late that all that time running up and down Kanto were the best years of her life.

  • Now a corporate coordinator for Silph Co., the same company that produced Pocket Monsters, she spends her 9-to-5 dispatching Pokemon Coordinators and setting up Contests... and wishing she was back in the field, back in the spotlight, and back in the arms of the only person she loved.

Yes, it's D(awn, M)IS(ty/erena)MAY(ellow?...).

HEADCANONS & PERSONALITY

  • When she's not depressed, she's mostly based on S1 Misty, tsundereness, mallets, and all. I take bits and pieces of each character from multiple mediums, though - ranging from the games (duh) to Pokemon Adventure.

  • When she IS depressed, she tends to be very bitter and sarcastic.

  • Is of Pan-Kanto (Kanto and surrounding environs) and Kalosian descent, with the not-German region the Berlitz family (and Stoutland line) comes from. Naturally, she's fluent in Pan-Kanto dialects (Johto, Sinnohan, Hoennese, etc) and Kalosian.

  • Has an acrimonious relationship with her family, due to personality differences and typical Kantonese pressure to push your kids to be better than the parents. Despite her family being rich from being part of the Berlitz bloodline, she refuses to use any of their money.

  • Her mother, a former Contestant, Rhyhorn Racer, and Champion aspirant, worked (and still does) in the Entertainment business - and was the one who pushed Dismay into the spotlight, using her connections to get her into an audition with Silph when they were casting for the first season of Pocket Monsters.

  • Dismay got the role as Ash's first companion partially because she was Ash's childhood friend, partially because her temper and drive contrasted and complimented Ash's own... and partially because the Berlitzes are filthy rich.

  • (He really did steal her bike, though.)

  • The former Unovan branch of Silph Co. that distributed Pocket Monsters internationally was obsessed with being "for kids". As a result, she often doesn't curse or reference overly Kantonese things, out of force of habit.

  • Said Silph Co. branch had aspirations to be a record company, and often had its stars sing on cheesy 90s albums for that extra cash, even putting on a stage performance. As a result, Dismay knows how to sing.

  • Her rival was Irishauna, who is so named because I'm fucking stupid and thought Iris and Shauna were the same character at one point.

  • Irishauna and Cilan wound up replacing her, Brock, and Max on Pocket Monsters. Clemont was able to stay for reasons unknown to her - and while this didn't embitter her against him, he's still a reminder that fame's fickle.

  • Has varying degrees of one-sided hatred for the companions that replaced her on Pocket Monsters - starting from mild annoyance with Cilan to great ravenous hatred for Goh. However, for the sake of NOT becoming homeless, she puts on a happy face whenever she interacts with them.

  • Her name came about due to her parents (and extended family) not being able to agree on what to name her. 'Dismay' wound up being frankensteined out of the names her parents really liked.

  • Still carries around her old team. She thinks she's just saving them just in case. She really thinks that, any moment, she might be able to save the day like she did on Pocket Monsters.

  • An adulthood(?) of working for Silph Co. as a Corporate Coordinator has left her with more knowledge about legal restrictions, tax breaks, expense calculations, and a hatred for printers than she'd care to admit.

  • Her full name is quite long, as a result of the Berlitzes marrying into so many different families and insisting on "Royal Naming Conventions". It's incredibly embarrassing to her.

  • She used to post and argue on various Pocket Monsters forums, has an old fanfiction account, and probably used to write Gary/Ash slash.

  • I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M MAKING A 4CHAN JOKE OC INTO A SERIOUS CHARACTER

  • She can't really cook... except for baking. That's a different story. On that note, don't touch her food or you WILL regret it.

  • She's dabbled in some stuff outside of Pocket Monsters - she's knowledgeable enough with a Computer to work Digital Monsters, but she's absolutely hopeless at card games.

ABOUT POCKET MONSTERS

  • Pocket Monsters was the brainchild of four ex-Champions - a Bug Catcher, an Artist, a Businessman, and a Super Nerd - who wanted to both recapture the old days of battling and being a Master as well as breathe new life into it - and what better way to do this than showcasing all the Leagues that Silph Co. purchased, starting with Kanto?

  • It was (and continues to be) a runaway smash hit. The cross between a reality show and a documentary, with real and "real" scenarios encountered by Ash, Dismay, and Brock on their way to become Masters, proved irresistible to kids.

  • Team Rocket? Jessie, James, and Giovanni were actors - though the real Team Rocket made their displeasure known quite frequently. Characters of the day? Just as likely to be paid actors as they were real people with real problems, who were thankful for the driven young lad who represented Silph Co.'s great vision and purpose.

  • And even if you didn't watch the show, you might have already joined the Silph Co. league, represented by Red, a cousin of Ash.

  • People across the globe tuned in or played in the Leagues - people who'd inevitably buy Silph Co. branded Pokeballs, fight in Silph Co. balanced Leagues, feed their best friends Silph Co. brand food, ride on Silph Co. brand bikes, and win Silph Co. sponsorships and trophies.

  • Even now, some people can sing the theme song better than they can recall the latest political squabble in their Regions.

  • It had its fair amount of rival shows, too, like Digital Monsters, which had the misfortune of sharing a similar premise and name, despite technically coming first, or Duel Monsters, supposedly based on ancient card games kings like AZ played.

FORMAT GUIDE

  • Normally formatted Tweets, Tweets mentioning Silph Co. or using (TM), and/or anything that sounds promotional is Dismay speaking as a corporate drone Silph Co. Coordinator.

  • <<Anything in greater-than/less-than signs are her going off the record - speaking as someone who used to be someone.>> Though, anything snarky in tone can generally be considered her also going off the record!

  • (( Double parentheses are OOC.))

  • « Guillemets indicate her speaking/writing in Kalosian. Up to you if it's automatically translated or not to your character. »
